Banker’s Gold, a grade II winner who stood in the U.S. before being sent to Cyprus earlier this year, was euthanized in April. The 14-year-old son of Forty Niner suffered a fractured leg. Bred in Kentucky by Edward A. Cox Jr., Banker’s Gold won six of 15 races and earned $461,420 for owner Georgia E. Hofmann. Based in New York with trainer Allen Jerkens, he captured the Tom Fool Handicap (gr. II) and Peter Pan Stakes (gr. II) and placed in three graded stakes. Banker’s Gold is represented by 10 stakes winners, including graded winner Lisa M, 2008 Canadian graded winner My List, and two Panamanian champions. His runners have earned $9.3 million. Banker’s Gold, who was produced from the graded I stakes-winning Nijinsky II mare Banker’s Lady, started his stallion career at Brereton C. Jones’ Airdrie Stud near Midway, Ky. He later stood in Pennsylvania before being exported. He covered 32 of the 60 mares booked to him this year.
